, This bathroom is no different, it had a good sized brief (very specific) but was stuck in a very small room with small amounts of natural light. The clients desire for a black and white themed bathroom with a small window was cause for concern as it could have looked heavy or felt small and crampt.
The client wanted a seperate shower, free standing bath vanity that was easy to access, narrow storage for all the nick naks and bathroom bits we seem to "collect" these days. The toilet cistern had to be concealed, Underfloor heating and heated towel rails where a must and there was a push for as little grout as possible.
From the outset is was clear to us we had to increase the widow size, with a good sized garden bed on the other side of the bathroom (side passage to backyard) we decided to extend the floor space by cantilevering a metal box for the bath out over the garden bed and making the window floor to ceiling. This makes the space feel twice as big and brings the outdoors in!
This small amount of floor space was all we needed to fit all the requirements of the brief in. Marble slabs to the floor and to 1200mm high around the room, Corian clad walls above this gave us minimal to no grout and then as a stark contrast to these oversized elements we chose the Mutina mosaic tiles to define the vanity area adding texture and depth to the room.
The Kos Morphing range was used to play on the black & white theme, these elements represent more furniture like than bathroom fixtures and they also help soften the space.
The results of this space are striking, and we can not wait to see this space completed (built) watch this space as it is due in the coming months.
