It was a fabulous night for Designer Darren Genner of Minosa (www.minosadesign.com) when he took out several awards at the glittering KBDi Designer Awards 2013 gala held 3 August. The ceremony was the culmination of an awards program that attracted the cream of Australia’s kitchen and bathroom designers. Standards were consistently high, and competition was strong.
The highlight for Darren was hearing his name announced as KBDi Australian Bathroom Designer of the Year 2013. This prestigious award (one of the ‘top three’) is drawn from chapter winners and earlier in the night, Darren had collected his awards as chapter winner, and also category winner for this project. And to cap it all off, winning this award meant that Darren also secured a trip to Italy in 2014, to visit Eurocucina, a huge international trade exhibition held in Milan!

| KBDi Australian Bathroom Designer of the Year 2013 KBDI NSW Bathroom Design of the Year KBDI NSW Large Bathroom of the Year About Darren’s winning project: The designer was commissioned to create an ensuite that incorporated the natural beauty of a stunning cliff and fabulous views to the beach. To blend with the sharp style of this architect-designed home, cutting-edge design that defied convention was required, but the space needed to be private and a place for rejuvenation and relaxation. The clients required a large shower, free-standing bath, big wardrobe, double basins and quality fittings and fixtures throughout. The judges said, ‘What a magnificent home with a magnificent, well executed bathroom to match! The design cleverly interplays with the environment and has the ability to keep totally separate if the weather conditions do not allow this to be practical. Mirrors have been used very cleverly to bring the outside in.’ |

About this winning entry: The clients wanted a clean, fresh kitchen to cater to modern living requirements and exude understated elegance. The space had to integrate a home office and laundry, as well as an everyday eating area for at least two diners. The judges said that this very pleasing and innovative design shows exceptional use of limited storage space.

About this winning entry: The clients’ brief was to create a cutting-edge kitchen like a piece of bespoke furniture, that would also ‘warm up’ the off-form concrete ceilings and walls surrounding it in this stunningly beautiful architect-designed home with extensive views. The judges said that the exceptional finishes in this kitchen have created a visually appealing space that flows nicely and is highly functional. Innovative cabinetry overcomes some difficult design constraints and the harmonious blend of colour and texture complements its surroundings.
Then, after winning this award, Darren went on to win KBDi Kitchen Designer of the Year NSW 2013 for this project!

About this winning entry: Quality fittings and fixtures, a freestanding bath, efficient storage solutions, double basins, separate shower, no grout and good use of natural and artificial light, were inclusions in the clients’ brief. Overall, they sought a design that was high-end, fresh and modern.The judges said, 'This is such a clever design. Not only are the European fittings wonderful examples of good design, but the entire bathroom screams style.'
